ATONE
Your Crusade is over. Purgatory is overrun. Now you must ATONE.
Together with a good friend, we made Atone in one week for a 1-Bit themed game jam. The theme was "beat", so I quickly got to work blueprinting a medieval rhythm game.
The game is centered around a nameless knight purging Purgatory of demons for God to atone for his sins. To stick with the "beat" theme, you must pay attention to your heartbeat/stamina bar
and make sure not to over exert yourself. You can gain stamina from getting kills as close to on-beat as possible. I made all the art assets and animation by myself using Aseprite.
This was the most fun I've ever had doing a game jam, and I learned so much about Unity's animation system. I was responsible for importing and adding state machine logic to make all the animations as seamless as possible.
If I had more time for this project, I would've added a far more robust tutorial, as well as conducted more playtesting to make sure all players understood the gameplay as best as possible.
Role: Designer, Artist, and Programmer
Contributions: I blueprinted the concept of the game on paper, to see if the idea of the 3 lanes of enemies would work.
I worked very hard to create all the art and animations.
I wrote scripts for player movement, enemy spawning that reads in enemy pattern files, and created the gore system using particle effects
Tools: Unity 2D, Aseprite
